Clean gutters at least twice a year: once in late spring after seed and pollen season, and once in late fall after leaves have dropped. Most standard 1-inch filters need replacing every one to three months depending on household conditions — more frequently with pets, allergies, or dusty environments. Thicker media filters (4–5 inches) typically last longer, but check the manufacturer's guidance. Write the installation date on the filter frame so you always know when it went in.

The condenser coils on a refrigerator release heat from the cooling cycle. Coils are typically located at the back of older refrigerators or behind a grille at the base of newer models. Unplug the refrigerator, pull it away from the wall or remove the base grille, and use a vacuum with a brush attachment or a coil cleaning brush to remove buildup.
